You want the best for your furry friend and we at Petology do too! We’re here for you and we’re committed to helping shine a light on the best practices and products for your pet (and we’re going to have some fun while doing it). At Petology, we’re in the camp that natural pet care is the best care. According to Veterinarian Advisor Dr. Jean Hofve, “Natural pet care is a concept that involves every aspect of our pet's lives, with the intention of coming as close to their natural environment as possible, while still providing safety and comfort.”
We understand that in a fast-paced modern world, there are so many choices when it comes to pet care. It can be overwhelming trying to figure out what practices are best practices and what products are actually good for your pet. At the end of the day, you as a pet owner want one thing: to provide your pet with a full life—rich in both love and health. We want to help you with that!
Maybe the transition to natural pet care is new? Maybe you are stuck because you know you want to make some changes for the health of your pet but you don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’re a seasoned natural pet care veteran? Whatever camp you find yourself in, we’ve got you covered. We understand that the care and health of your beloved pet rests on your shoulders and so we want to empower you as the pet owner, because nobody can love and care for your furry friend like you. You’re pretty awesome!
Considering natural pet care, here’s a little introduction into the holistic needs of your pet:
Like with our bodies, the most important thing you can do for your pet is pay attention to what you’re putting in their body. Unless they get sneaky-sneaky and find their way to a countertop or tabletop when nobody’s looking, you are the gateway for the fuel that goes into their bodies. Remember, fresh is best! Nothing is better than a variety of fresh, tasty, whole foods. Imagine having to eat a bowlful of the same dry cereal every meal, every day, for years on end… it would be miserable right? Not to mention, it would also lead to nutritional deficiencies and the development of various health conditions. That said, don’t do it to your pet, they deserve more! Read labels and avoid processed foods. Opt for organic whenever possible, make sure the first few ingredients listed are high-quality animal protein, and watch out for grain fillers like corn. Also steer clear of unpronounceable chemical additives and preservatives. And don’t forget that dogs need their vegetables just like us. It’s all about freshness and variety!
To help you, here’s a scale for freshness (1 being the most fresh and 6 being the least fresh):
Your pet isn’t going to make a New Year’s resolution to take up yoga, get to the gym more, or meet their bestie for a walk during their lunch break! Although that’d be nice (and a sight to see), the responsibility to make sure your pet is getting adequate exercise falls on you. And of course, energy levels and activity needs vary across breeds, so do some research and learn what your furry friend needs and then make sure that is part of your daily schedule. Remember, there’s nothing your pet wants more than to be with you, so make sure walks and playtime are part of your daily routine. Isn’t it something like the pet and pet owner that “play together stay together!”? Have fun being active together. Not only will will it do your relationship right, but it’ll also do both of your bodies right too!
Your pet needs regular combing, brushing, and trimming, but when it comes to washing, that’s where our expertise comes in—we’ve got you covered in this arena! Of course we have nothing without our physical well-being and health. The same is true for our pets. With physical health, prevention is key! And the key to prevention is annual examinations with your veterinarian. It’s important to stay up-to-date on routine exams for both their health and dental needs. You love your pet and so we trust you’re staying on top of vaccinations, dental care, and other health supplementations. If not, find a veterinarian with a good reputation and set up an initial exam.
